All Samsung 2018 4K HDR TV Models

In last year, 2018, Samsung has released the number models of its 4K UHD TV, from the entry level up to premium model. From NU6900 that has cheap price and limited features up to Q9FN that has a huge price and has a lot of attractive features. Each of them offers good performance for each of their price range. Unlike the competitor like LG or Sony where their lineup comes with various panel technology, from all models that released in 2018 by Samsung, there is no OLED TV or LED TV with IPS panel technology. This means, all models of Samsung’s TV in 2018 come with VA panel. Can be ascertained, all of them have good native contrast ratio that makes their performance in a dark room is also good. But otherwise, as is typical of VA panel TVs, their side viewing angle coverage is poor. Below are all models of Samsung 4K HDR TVs which released in 2018, from the entry level to high end model.

Samsung NU6900

Samsung NU6900 Review

Samsung NU6900 are the entry level model of Samsung’s 2018 4K HDR LED TV lineup. In the market, it comes in the number of screen sizes option including 43 inch (UN43NU6900), 50 inch (UN50NU6900), 55 inch (UN55NU6900), and 65 inch (UN65NU6900), and the largest is 75 inch (UN75NU6900). Although features and technology offered by NU6900 is not as complete as the series above it, but overall, its performance is good for its price range. The advantage that offered, it has good native contrast ratio that makes it can produce deep black. Additionally, it also has good input lags that makes it is good entry level TV for games. But on the other hand, this TV only has 60 Hz refresh rate panel. Coming with HDR technology, HDR performance offered is limited due its color performance and peak brightness is limited. The other disadvantage, this TV doesn’t have good side viewing angle coverage. And for connecting with other devices, NU6900 is equipped with 2 HDMI ports only. Coming with Tizen 2018 OS, it also lacks some features offered by the premium model like NU8000 or QLED TVs. Overall, picture quality and performance of NU6900 is mediocre but for its price range, can still be said well.

Samsung NU7100

Samsung NU7100 Review

One level above NU6900, Samsung NU7100 is sold a bit more expensive. In the market, it comes in a lot of screen sizes option including 40 inch (UN40NU7100), 43 inch (UN43NU7100), 50 inch (UN50NU7100), 58 inch (UN58NU7100), 65 inch (UN65NU7100), and 75 Inch (UN75NU7100). Sold a bit more expensive than NU6900, there are not many advantages offered, even in some aspects, it is even inferior to NU6900. Like other models of Samsung TVs lineup, Samsung NU7100 also has strong native contrast ratio and deep black level. Meanwhile, the advantage over NU6900, its input lags is lower than makes it is more responsive when used for playing games. Additionally, it also has better uniformity than NU6900, so although both NU7100 and NU6900 have strong native contrast ratio, but in showing dark scene, NU7100 is a bit better. This TV also already has 3 HDMI ports. Like NU6900, this TV also has native 60 Hz refresh rate panel. But even so, its pixel response time is not as low as NU7100. This certainly makes its performance in handling motion blur is not as good as NU7100. Additionally, although it already supports some HDR formats like HDR10, HLG, and HDR10+, but its HDR performance is limited. Overall, performance of Samsung NU7100 is a bit better than NU6900.

Samsung NU7300

Samsung NU7300 Review

Samsung NU7300 is the curved model of NU7100. But unlike NU7100 that comes in a lot of screen sizes, Samsung NU7300 only comes in 2 screen sizes only, those are 55 inch (UN55NU7300) and UN65NU7300.  Except the panel shape, features and technology offered by NU7300 is not far different to NU7100. It also has strong native contrast ratio and deep black level, good black uniformity, excellent input lags, and 3 HDMI ports. Its peak brightness is a bit brighter than its brother NU7100. But like NU7100, it also has poor side viewing angle coverage and its HDR ability is also limited. Overall, the excepting of that impacted by curved panel like the aesthetic and others, performance of NU7300 is similar than NU7100. But even so, for this case, you must spend a bit more of your money to get the curved panel.

Although its 49 inch model still has 60 Hz native refresh rate panel, but for bigger screen sizes, it already comes with 120 Hz refresh rate panel. This can be said NU8000 is the lowest model of Samsung’s 2018 TVs that comes with 120 HZ refresh rate panel. If the series below it don’t have local dimming, this TV already has local dimming. Overall, picture quality offered by NU8000 is better than the series below it. In addition it can produce deep black, NU8000 also already support wide color gamut and has brighter peak brightness than the series below it. This certainly makes picture quality and HDR performance offered is better. Additionally, its Tizen OS also has more complete features than the series below it, make its smart TV experience is more attractive. Overall, whether it is for watching movies, TV shows, Sports or playing Games, in HDR or without HDR, performance of NU8000 is better than the series above. Samsung NU8500

Samsung NU8500 Review

Like NU7300, Samsung NU8500 also comes with curved panel or with other word, it is the curved model of Samsung 8 Series. In the market, NU8500 comes in 2 screen sizes only including 55 inch (UN55NU8500) and 65 inch (UN65NU8500). Since it is the curved model of 8 Series, except its panel shape, technology and features offered are also not far different to what offered by NU8000. Except that impacted by the curved panel, picture quality and performance offered is also not far different to NU8000. It also has local dimming technology, deep black level, wide color gamut, and decent peak brightness for HDR.  Additionally, NU8500 also has native 120 Hz refresh rate panel. Overall, Samsung NU8500 is a middle class TV for mixed usage. Whether it is for watching movies in a dark room, TVs Shows, Sports, HDR movies, and playing games, its performance is not disappointed. Samsung Q6FN is the lowest model of Samsung’s 2018 QLED TV lineup. Samsung Q6FN is the cheapest model of Samsung’s 2018 4K TV lineup that comes with Quantum Dot panel. But except quantum dot panel, technology and features offered is similar to NU8000. But even so, since it comes with quantum dot panel technology, Samsung Q9FN can produce wider color gamut and better color volume than NU8000. This certainly makes the color of the picture displayed on its screen looks more vivid and accurate. But as we have mentioned, its contrast ratio, peak brightness, pixel response time, input lags, and smart TV features are not far different to NU8000. Samsung Q7CN

Samsung Q7CN Review

In the same class with Q7FN, Samsung Q7CN comes with curved panel. With other word, Samsung Q7CN is the curved model of Q7FN. And of course, except their panel shape, technologies and features offered by Q7CN is the same to Q7FN. In the market, it comes in 2 screen sizes option only those are 55 inch (QN55Q7CN) and 65 Inch (QN65Q7CN). Like Q7FN, Samsung Q7CN is a good TV in its price level. It has excellent native contrast ratio, bright peak brightness, excellent color gamut and volume, fast pixel response time, and low input lags. All of these makes it is a good TV for any usage, whether for watching movies, sports. TV shows, or playing Games. Additionally, although it cannot show HDR images like the creator intended due its peak brightness is still less than 1000 nits, but overall their HDR performance is quite satisfying. But unfortunately, sold a bit more expensive than Q7FN, its curved panel doesn’t give a lot of benefits over flat panel. And once again, side viewing angle coverage becomes the bad side of Samsung Q7CN.

Samsung Q8FN

Samsung Q8FN Review

One level above Q7FN, Samsung Q8FN is sold hundreds dollar more expensive than Q7FN. A bit more than Q7FN, it comes in 4 screen sizes options including 55 Inch (QN55Q8FN), 65 inch (QN65Q6FN) 75 inch (QN75Q8FN) and the largest is 82 inch (QN82Q8FN). The result, in certain windows size particularly small windows sizes, its peak brightness is brighter than 1000 nits. This certainly allow you to enjoy HDR experience with benefits that offered by HDR over SDR content. Nevertheless, except local dimming technology that makes its picture quality and HDR performance is better than Q7FN, performance offered by Q7FN is not far different to Q7FN. Overall, technologies offered by Q8FN are not far different to Q8FN. But even so, although both Q8FN and Q9FN come with Full Array Local Dimming technology, but the number of dimming zones of Q9FN is a more than Q8FN. The result, with local dimming activated, Q9FN has far stronger native contrast ratio than the series below it. Its local dimming can even boost its contrast ratio close to 20000:1, the strongest native contrast ratio that can be reached by LED TV. This certainly allows it can produce far deeper black. Additionally, its local dimming also makes its can produce superior peak brightness, brighter than 1000 nits in some windows sizes. Since its peak brightness is brighter than 1000 nits, this makes it can show highlight of HDR images excellently like the movies creator’s intended. With its display performance, this makes Q9FN is as the one of the best TVs for HDR experience.
